Othello Local Road Safety Plan
Our city has a crash problem.
When compared to 20 similarly-sized cities in Washington,
our city has the second-highest amount
of vehicle crashes and injuries.
Othello has experienced twice the amount of vehicle crashes over the last several years than many of these 20 cities.
Crashes occurring in 25-mph areas make up nearly 70% of Othello crashes.
That's almost three times the Washington average.
Safer neighborhoods need safe roads.
We need your help to identify the priority areas for improvement.
Please use the activities below to share your thoughts and experiences,
and interact with your community through votes and replies.
ISSUES & OPPORTUNITIES
Place "issue markers" at roads, intersections, or areas that are dangerous for drivers, bikers, or pedestrians.
You'll be prompted with a few follow-up questions to help us better understand the conditions at the spots you picked.

Take a left off of Olympia St on to 4th Ave and tell me that the street striping makes sense.

the “roundabouts “ in town need to go. I have seen an accident because people don’t pay attention and just drive through them. I have seen many near misses because of the same reason. They are not slowing people down or making people watch out for other drivers. They just take it as they have the right away.

Lack of traffic enforcement. Assign an Othello police officer to only traffic enforcement. The City is growing and you can't have a free for all on our streets.

Speeding along 7th and Lions Park is getting ridiculously dangerous. It's dangerous to back out of driveways, kids dscat the park kids walking to & from school are in danger of speeders. No police presence, not even during hours of high usage. Saying this is a 'thoroughfare' so therefore you can't put any rumble strips or speed bumps is nonsense. The city is spending A TON of money on other things that are less important. Please adjust your priorities to the safety of your citizens.
The new parking laid out on the south side of Lions Park is horrible. What were they smoking when they planned THAT? Too narrow on both sides and no way can traffic (all the big pickup trucks!) safely travel in both directions with all those spaces filled. Think: ball season, 4th of July fireworks. It's going to be a nightmare. Honestly, I'm just shaking my head.

do NOT put up anymore of those ridiculous Temu roundabouts, and the fact that you don’t have enough data to show where these so-called dangerous crashes are occurring means that this is all a farce

street lights are horrible down 7th ave and Scooteny street. Can’t see the children when they walk to school during winter months and in the evening when they are walking on those streets. Very poor lighting

Hwy 26 & 14th Ave needs a roundabouts too many accidents and fatalities in that intersection

Remove the bulb outs! Add sensors to the Broadway/Main stop lights. Takes too long for a green light if you're driving down Broadway.

Gemstone needs either roundabouts or a few stop signs. It is the only street south of Main without some sort of slow down mechanism. It is extremely crowded and people drive very fast.
Red light camera on 14th and Main would help with the large number of people running red lights.
30 is too high for Main Street. Lots of pedestrians that are not paying attention and cars going way too fast. I know it’s a higher speed limit to encourage less traffic in neighborhoods but it’s dangerous.

I believe if we actually got some nice new roads that isn’t just the chip and seal it would also make a difference.

The new parking around Lion's park is ridiculous. Both lanes of travel don't fit if there are cars parked on both sides of the road. If a kid dives out from a parked car, there's no room to react. The road striping on the north end of town leaves much to be desired. North 4th Ave's striping is so crooked, you would drive into a parked car if you followed it...

I agree completely. This was a very poorly thought out process. All the big rigs...during ball season, the 4th July. Absolutely ridiculous how the stopping was done.

new development area needs some kind of "slow down" speed bumps??? I live on mt.baker, and people are going at least 30mph if not more. Also, intersection of 14th and Main, both left turn cars have blinkers on, yet neither will turn, do they not know you can both turn at the same time???? I believe people are receiving a license without actually knowing the rules of the road.

100% agree on the 14th and Main where both cars have left turn blinkers on. My biggest pet peeve and annoys the crab out of me when behind them. Next thing I know, neither went or went last minute and now I have to wait through another red light.
