About the Model Zoning Code

Gallatin County is creating a model zoning code to help promote affordable housing that is identical to the quality of market rate housing. This is being done because previous planning efforts have identified a need for affordable, accessible housing that is appropriate for a variety of ages and life stages. Housing is considered affordable when the cost of the unit does not exceed 30% of a household's gross income, so that residents can afford their housing while still having enough money for other necessities.

Oftentimes, providing a variety of housing types provides a wider range of options when it comes to affordability. There are also ways to incentivize affordable housing development. We want to understand which housing types, incentives, and zoning code options the community supports.

Your feedback is critical to ensure housing policies reflect community values while addressing local needs. Thank you for participating!
